America:
the great melting pot, the home of diversity and freedom. However,
despite our history of being an immigrant nation, the face of America is
still one of a white person. Everyday, the diverse people of this
nation face discrimination due to the fact they they do not look like a
stereotypical all-American. Hate crimes threaten the very people who
make our country so wonderfully diverse, and it is time that we change
the face of America to represent us all. American people of color are
tired of being asked where they are "really" from. American people of
color are tired of being told to "go back to their own country." But
most of all, American people of color are tired of being treated as
second-class citizens in their own home. To make another step towards
achieving racial equality, we must change the perception of diversity in
our country. People have the right to say they are American without a
hyphen in front. "I am American" should be enough
